All Bourbon is Whiskey, but not all Whiskey is Bourbon. 

There are many kinds of whiskey; Scotch whisky, Irish whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, Canadian whisky & of course Bourbon whiskey, like Jim Beam.

Whiskey is a type of liquor made from fermented grain mash, typically aged in a wooden barrel.  Different mixes of grain (based on the flora unique to each country of origin) provides different flavour profiles. 

Bourbon & Scotch are categories of whiskey, differentiated by the unique regulations & rules that set them apart from other categories.   

Bourbon is known as ‘America’s Spirit’, as all Bourbon must be made in the USA.  Bourbon, derives its taste, flavour and finish from the unique mix of grains – particularly corn – that go into the mix, & the barrels that it ages in. 

How do I know what Bourbon is right for me?

Although all Bourbon is generally sweet (due to the high levels of corn) there are many differences from one product to the next. 

Increasing different grains (like rye for spice), varying the length of time spent aging, or creative use of barreling (like using two barrels for more flavour) can give different Bourbons unique characteristics.

Fully aged, then matured for a second time in a new, freshly charred oak barrel allowing the liquid to develop a deeper level of intense spiced oakiness, with rich caramel flavours.
